Mashhad Faculty of Dentistry was founded by Dr. Badri Timurtash and Dr. Amir Ismail Sandouzi in 1344. This faculty was the second dental faculty in Iran that award the university degree of Doctor of Dentistry (DDS) to its graduates within the framework of higher education. The proposed plan for the establishment of this faculty was submitted to Iran's Program and Budget Organization in the early 1330s.
Dr. Fereydon Farzin was the first head of this faculty, Dr. Badri Timurtash was his financial administrative assistant and Dr. Amir Ismail Sandouzi was his cultural assistant. In 1346, Dr. Farzin was elected as the head of Shahid Beheshti School of Dentistry and Dr. Badri Timurtash became the second head of Mashhad School of Dentistry. She was the first female dentist who was elected as the head of a dental school in Iran.
At first, dental classrooms and laboratories were located on Israr Street, and treatment departments were located at the end of Kuhsangi Street. The current building of the Faculty of Dentistry was built in 1353, in three building blocks and on two floors with an area of 20000 square meters at the beginning of Vakil Abad Boulevard, and in 1396, the third floor was added to the main building.
Since 1358, Mashhad Dental Faculty has expanded its educational programs by starting specialized courses in oral and maxillofacial surgery and endodontics, so that now this faculty accepts students in 10 specialized fields and two fellowship courses in a unique educational environment. So far, 3008 general dentists and 704 specialized dentists have graduated from this faculty, and 740 students and 90 residents are studying general and specialized dental courses in this faculty.
Currently, this faculty has eight classrooms (with a capacity of 100 people per class), four seminar halls, an open system library, a meeting hall with a capacity of 300 people, a dental hospital for performing treatments under anesthesia, 10 dental treatment departments that Together, they form 330 dental treatment units, a permanent 115 emergency base, a central laboratory, four prosthetic laboratories, three full clinics, a laser unit, a dental materials laboratory, two dining halls for students and employees with a capacity of 200 people in infrastructure of 25,000 people. square meters and is considered the largest dental school in Iran.
